Hair Loss in West Palmdale, CA

A person's hair can create a lasting first impression. While hair may appear to be a small detail in the grand scheme of things, it is natural to make a judgment based on how someone colors or styles their hair and how much or how little hair they may have. So whenever someone begins losing their hair, it can be quite distressing. For men and women, baldness can be difficult to accept. Fortunately, with all the innovative advances available now in hair restoration, your hair loss can be addressed, reversed, and in many cases, restored. At Sandhu Dermatology & Med Spa, we treat patients in West Palmdale, Ridgecrest, and Tehachapi, CA with varying degrees of hair loss, from early hair thinning to late-stage baldness, by supplying personalized patient-specific treatments, providing the best cosmetically pleasing results.

New improvements in medical and surgical tactics and technologies have made it feasible for both women and men to slow hair loss, reverse, and restore it. Sandhu Dermatology & Med Spa provides a vast array of advanced nonsurgical remedies, including therapeutic scalp and hair goods, specially made hair growth medications, nutritional supplements and dietary modifications, low-level laser therapy, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) using placenta-based extracellular matrix treatment.

For men and women who require surgery, Sandhu Dermatology & Med Spa provides the latest in follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE), the most cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedures thus far. Though 95 – 98% of male pattern hair loss is because of genetics, hormones, and aging, women's hair loss might be caused by different issues. As a result, a multi-therapeutic method of combating baldness might be required to slow down or stop hair loss, improve the standard of hair you have, and restore hair that has been lost.

Most hair loss conditions can be reversed simply by addressing the causal variable(s) and/or utilizing nonsurgical methods to stop hair loss, improve the quality of the hair follicles, and regrow them. Other disorders cannot be treated without surgery because of the degree and permanence of the hair loss. In such scenarios, hair transplant surgery could be considered. Common hair loss disorders are:

  • Female and male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia)
  • Alopecia areata
  • Telogen effluvium
  • Anagen effluvium
  • Trichotillomania
  • Traction alopecia

I am so happy that I went to Shandu Dermatology!Dr Harika Shandu is an excellent surgeon with outstanding attention to detail. Her stitchwork is so beautiful that it reminds me of fine embroidery on a silk cloth. She's that good!I had what looked like two pimples on my back, but they were just the tip of the iceberg. I heard a "snip snip" , it felt like a haircut, and when she was done, a non-cancerous cyst - the size of my thumb! - was removed from my back and placed in a medical jar. I was shocked! I had no idea! The second cyst was the size of a marble, and a third cyst, located on my left forearm, which I thought was a weird looking mole, but no, no, no - it was a cyst the size of a 1-inch ball bearing! My jaw dropped in disbelief.Because Dr Hakita Shandu did such an excellent job sewing me up, my wounds have closed completely now and there is no scarring. There is still some discoloration around the wounds, but I plan on buying the Post Care Silicone Gel when I go back next week for a follow-up appointment.I’m also seriously considering the monthly subscription for a hydro facial. It sounds wonderful and very relaxing.Dr Hakita Shandu is a very nice person with a gentle touch. I would strongly recommend Shandu Dermatology for any skin care needs. The entire staff is very nice, and they made me feel very much at ease. It’s like the tv show Cheers! - “where everyone knows your name”Thank you very much, Dr Hakita Shandu! You're the best!Morris Lee FeasterPalmdale, CA

I had my procedure today with Ashley and Dr. Sandhu, I felt NOTHING. Not even the syringe that Ashley used to numb me before the full removal of my mole. Ashley made sure I was comfortable and was able to talk me through the prep process. Dr. Sandhu was so quick with the procedure I couldn’t even think to feel anything. I am still going to get a biopsy and 6 week follow up. But I am highly satisfied with the progress. I did peak under my bandaid and I’m glad to no longer see an abnormal mole! Thank you Dr. Sandhu and team!_______________________________________________I had my first mole check-up with Dr. Sandhu and Amanda, and I was truly impressed by the entire experience. From start to finish, the appointment process was smooth and easy. Both Dr. Sandhu and Amanda were professional, kind, and extremely knowledgeable, which helped put me at ease right away.Unfortunately, the mole in question appeared abnormal, so I have a follow-up appointment scheduled for a shave and biopsy. While I’m definitely hoping and praying for a benign result, I feel confident knowing I’m in such capable hands. As a cash patient, I also really appreciated the clear and reasonable pricing—no surprises, just honest care. I’m very grateful for their support and would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for attentive and thorough dermatologic care.

The usual medical term used for hair loss is alopecia, a broad category that includes androgenetic alopecia, male pattern baldness, female pattern hair loss, and other forms of non-scarring alopecia. Hair loss occurs when the normal hair growth cycle is disrupted, particularly during the anagen growth phase. Some conditions are temporary and linked to stress or illness, while others are permanent. For many men and women, thinning hair is caused by hereditary factors, age, genetics, and sensitivity to androgens such as DHT, which can lead to progressive hair thinning and receding hairlines. This type of genetic hair loss is extremely common, affecting an estimated 30 to 50 million people in the United States alone.

Other causes of hair loss can interrupt growth cycles or damage hair follicles altogether. These may include telogen effluvium, alopecia areata, scalp infections, thyroid disorders, autoimmune conditions, nutritional deficiencies such as low iron or protein, certain medications, hormonal imbalance, physical trauma, and even traction from tight hairstyles. Over time, untreated hair shedding may become more noticeable, often starting in specific areas like the crown or temples before spreading more diffusely across the scalp.

Does stress result in hair loss?

Yes, stress may be tied to hair loss. When an individual experiences long-term stress, it leads to heightened cortisol production that might disrupt the regular hair growth cycle. Our team at Sandhu Dermatology & Med Spa could determine the source of your hair loss, whether it's stress or something else. Our team has a variety of methods to address hair loss at our West Palmdale, CA facility.

How much hair loss is typical?

It's natural to lose 50 to 100 hairs per day. That said, if you are shedding more than 150 strands daily, it could be evidence of a hair loss condition. One of the seasoned professionals at Sandhu Dermatology & Med Spa in West Palmdale, CA can review your circumstances and discern whether or not your hair loss is any cause for concern.

How can I prevent hair loss?

For a few men and women, hair loss might be prevented after implementing specific diet and lifestyle changes. These include:

  • Skip harsh styling methods, such as applying high heat
  • Minimize your stress
  • Stop having tight braids or ponytails
  • Get decent rest
  • Consume a high-protein diet
  • Take vitamins every day (including Vitamins A, B, C, D, and E, plus zinc and iron)
  • Eat the Mediterranean diet
